While working on an original project together in Los Angeles, these musicians' love for nostalgia and classic music inspired them to collaborate on a new group called the Tape Deck Heroes. Playing all of the music from the band's childhoods, the Tape Deck Heroes recreate the good times and vibes that emerged from partying at your best friend's house.
Our objective is to deliver an energetic and polished performance. We work hard to get every song we play to feel right and recognizable. You'll be working with a group of professional musicians. While we are strongest playing songs from the 80s/90s era, we pride ourselves on being diverse and moving comfortably through different genres.

Brendan Flavin grew up in the San Fernando Valley and has been playing music since grade school where he got his start in the church handbell choir. Brendan attended Musician's Institute and graduated with a degree in Music Performance and another in Audio Engineering. After MI, Brendan began recording and performing with many bands throughout the Los Angeles area and is currently the founder, lead singer, and guitarist of the alternative arena rock band Titus.
Richard Malstrom worked as an audio engineer in Chicago for eight years before moving to Los Angeles to write and produce music for TV and film. Since then, he has created music for Bravo's The Real Housewives of Dallas, NBC's Constantine, and ABC's Forever. Richard has also created music for Soylent and The Webby Awards.
Hailing from Colombia, Jamie started playing drums at the age of 12 and joined a local party band not long after. He was very involved in his hometown music scene, playing in major festivals and headlining tours with notable projects in South America. After moving to LA, Jamie had a part on a television show with UK artist, Elyar. He is a currently a drummer about town, working with several projects in Los Angeles.
Valerie honed her skills as a musician by working in the dark orchestra pits of musical theatre. A move to Los Angeles shifted her into playing more with singer/songwriters and bands. She has joined several groups on national and regional tours. Valerie has also lended her talents on various folk and indie rock recordings.
Brendan McGrath has been utilizing his musical talents professionally both live and on studio recordings with a variety of instruments since the young age of 10. By age 18, he was the featured guitarist for Los Angeles’ highly sought after Irish rock band ‘Wrath of McGrath’ incorporating mandolin as well as harmony and lead vocals. This notoriety would culminate to being recruited to play and tour internationally with members of the classic rock band Jethro Tull including front man Ian Anderson. His talents have had him recognized by Boston’s Berklee School of Music for “Outstanding Musicianship.”
